So what is this page all about, aside from the obvious?

As a person who really does perform in front of audiences with a combination of playing bass guitar and singing in a small four piece band, I have some experience that you might find useful. That is assuming you really want to get yourself in front of some real people and give it your best!

Everyone who performs in a live situation, whether it is for a large crowd in an auditorium, outdoor event or just a small club or bar, will have some amazing experiences to tell. We all have our own ways of dealing with the stage fright aspect of performing and believe me, we all get it from time to time in varying degrees.

Luckily for me, I have many years experience behind me and I don't generally let it get to me any more. In fact, I always tell myself that I'm doing it because I enjoy it and enjoying something is a pleasurable experience, not one of fear and terror!

Singing to an Audience

When you get the opportunity to sing in front of people, your audience, no matter how large or how small it may be, the feeling is usually a mixture of terror, excitement and amazement. Small wonder then that so many people want to get up and sing to an audience, any audience, yet so few actually have the courage to go through with it!

So that gets me around the fear factor and I really do enjoy doing what I do. You will doubtless find your own way of dealing with it and you too will overcome stage fright to enjoy singing to people who in the main will greatly appreciate what you’re doing.

That's not to say that everyone will like you, but most will. People are all different and have different likes and dislikes, so it's only fair to accept that not everyone will be your biggest fan!

What about learning how to sing in the first place?

Well, everyone has to start someplace. I was lucky in that one of the early bands I played in, before I ventured into singing, had a professional singer on board. When I asked if I could sing backing vocals, she gave me some really great singing lessons on over a period of several months, so I had a great start.

The rest came with practise, like everything else in this life. If you want to be good at something you have to learn the skills and then practise them regularly and often!

These days there are some great online singing course put together by professional singing coaches that you can do at home. These courses are down on video that you can watch on your TV or computer. It's just like having your own personal voice coach there with you!
